WestBound Horizons…

is the latest expedition of two world walkers, Karl Bushby and Angela Maxwell, teaming up for an epic expedition on foot as part of the continuation of Karl’s Goliath Expedition. With a combined experience of nearly 30 years and over 68,000 kilometers walked, they have united their own personal expeditions into one.

Karl will continue his walk from Bukhara, Uzbekistan, joined by Angela, crossing through the Kyzlkum desert and once reaching the largest inland body of water on earth, The Caspian Sea, they will attempt to swim across whereafter the journey will continue on foot into Europe and finishing in the UK.

And you’re invited to join them. Literally.

The goliath expedition

In 1998 Karl set out on an epic expedition- to walk the longest continuous journey on foot, from the bottom of South America to the UK, unassisted by any from of transport.

“An odyssey worthy of Ulysses himself, a saga fit for the old Nordic Gods.” — Frederick Forsyth (excerpt from the forward of Giant Steps: by Karl Bushby)

The Goliath Expedition is Bushby's attempt to walk around the world "with unbroken footsteps", from Punta Arenas, Chile, to his home in Hull, England. He began his journey on November 1, 1998 and has since then traversed 19 countries and over 37,000 kilometers. He successfully crossed the Bering Straight and the Darien Gap and crossed the US a second time to lift a Visa ban in Russia.

She walks the earth

In 2014 Angela began a solo walk around the world, immersing herself in the solitude of nature while also learning from and connecting with the places and people she encountered along the way.

“ Not knowing what lies around the corner, what view awaits me, who I’ll meet and what I can learn, is where I thrive. I like getting a bit lost in the unknown and enjoying the journey.”

Over 6.5 years, across 4 continents, over 32,000 kilometers, 14 countries and a handful of islands, Angela discovered her innate courage, strength and conviction. She traversed desolate deserts, snow-capped mountains and bustling ancient cities....alone. Twelve pairs of shoes and too many cups of noodles consumed to count, she walked nearly the circumference of the earth.
